ERVs: Ready, Set, Roll is basic level course that can be taken as a self-study or delivered in a classroom setting. The course provides participants with the opportunity to learn about and use an emergency response vehicle (ERV) and all related equipment. This course consists of two sessions. In the first session, participants use the participant workbook, video and the Safe Handling Procedures on Disaster Relief Operations handbook to learn about the safe use and operation of an ERV. At the conclusion of the first session, participants complete a self-administered true or false question course review. In the second session, participants receive an ERV orientation and take a road test conducted at a Red Cross chapter.
To attend the ERV orientation and take the road test, the following are required:
- Completion of Disaster Cycle Services: An Overview (WBT)
- Completion of the first session of the ERVs: Ready, Set, Roll self-study or instructor-led training and course review (WBT)
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- A valid driver’s license
- A clean driving record, verified by a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) report
To be eligible to drive an ERV, the following are required:
- ERVs: Ready, Set, Roll course certificate (sessions one and two)
- Current certifications in First Aid and CPR
- Successful completion of an American Red Cross approved defensive driving course (WBT)
- Successful completion of Basic Food Safety (WBT)
